Homespun and Holly at Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe

Saturday I had the privilege of teaching at one of my favorite events of the season.  “Homespun and Holly” at Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe in West Linn Oregon. 

Enter ~ the wonderful Hollyhill classroom all decked out for Christmas including Christmas music playing in the background.

This was the 2nd annual Homespun and Holly and was just as fabulous as the first.  “What do we do” you say?  Well let me tell you …..  We meet at 12:00 noon and began crafting.  There are 4 stations set up, each with its own teacher, project and supplies.  The participants spend 1 1/2 hours at each station.  They visited 3 stations, then enjoyed some shopping (with a very generous discount).  A catered dinner (including a visit from Mrs. Clause with goodies for all) and then a visit to the final station. 

 

Station 1

Station 2

Debbie Camp, a longarmer and budding new designer (her new company name is Patiche) lead her group in making ADORABLE punch needle ornaments!  (Sorry the picture doesn’t include Debbie or the ornaments.  Bad blogger!)

 

Station 3

Cindy Humbard of Needlepoint Plus in Beaverton Oregon had a small needlepoint piece for the gals to stitch that was inserted in the lid of a small red box.  It was a very sweet project. 

 

Station 4 ~ My Station

At my station we made “Tuffet Pincushions”.  The body of the pincushion was made of wool and we gathered up a honeybun strip that is stitched around the side of the pincushion.  Tufted with buttons and filled with crushed walnut shells, these little darlings will service their “stitcher” through many many projects (and look cute doing it)!

Quilt Sampler Top Ten honor!

I'm so excited to finally share some exciting news with you! 

Last fall, Jan Hill of Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe shared with me that her wonderful Shoppe was chosen to be a Top Ten shop, featured in this springs issue of Quilt Sampler Top Ten magazine!  So exciting and so deserved!  Each shop featured submits a project from their store to be included in the article and Jan asked me if I'd be willing to design a quilt for Hollyhill!  We poured over many upcoming lines of fabric and talked about different designs, Jan presented a number of possibilities to the magazine and this is the quilt design that will be featured ~

And guess what?  The quilt made the cover!!  How exciting is that?! 

I'm truly honored and humbled to be a part of this exciting time for Jan and Brian Hill and Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe.  If you have never visited their Shoppe you MUST go!  It's fabulous!  Those who have ~ you know what I'm talking about.

They will be offering quilt kits in both fabric lines and in assorted sizes at the Shoppe.  I will be teaching a class on the construction of the quilt.  Dates coming soon.

There's also going to be some celebrating!  Saturday, April 10 the celebration begins so mark it on your calendar and join me in West Linn for a fun time celebrating Hollyhills special honor!  (more details to come)

Weekend Quilting and Shopping!

I hope your week is off to a great start!!  How was your weekend?  I had a fun weekend away.  I headed north to Washington where I visited a few quilt shops, spent an evening with my Bellevue kids and grandbaby and then spent the rest of my time at a Quilt Retreat.  (more on the retreat in another post).

I want to share my visit to Carriage Country Quilts with you.  Even on a gray rainy day in January, Carriage Country Quilts puts a smile on your face.  The shop is located in a cute, yellow, 1937 bungalow in  Des Moines, Washington.

Where is Des Moines, Washington you say ~ it is between Tacoma and Seattle, about 10 minutes west of I-5.  Definately worth the trip!

Carriage Country quilts is filled to the brim with inspiration.  They carry alot of wool and embroidery projects.  (I wish I had time for!)  Along with many different types of fabric.  The rooms in the bungalow feature different styles ~ reproduction, kids, pastels ... with a nice selection of each.  They do lean more toward the primitive/country look but have much to offer in other styles.  I'll let you tour through the pictures below.  Wish you could have been with me.  It was great fun!  Be sure and stop when you're flying by on I-5.
